RMS Titanic left Southampton, England, on Wednesday 10 April, 1912 on her maiden voyage and arrived in Queenstown (currently known as Cobh) in Ireland the next day. She was launched with the presumption of being unsinkable, as the building company White Star Line and the Captain believed. Titanic’s reputation was summed up by one White Star Line employee’s often repeated quote, “Not even God himself could sink this ship.” Logos Hope passed Cobh on her way to Cork on Wednesday 1 July, 2009 and according to Security Officer Trygvi Petersen (Faroe Islands), “Titanic gave people hope of a better life but it was a false hope. With this vessel we give people a real hope in God”. The crew were welcomed to Cork with a very Irish misty rain and people on the quayside waiving their flags. This green land of hope will be the last port in Europe before the ship sails to the Caribbean.
